Lord, I Have Never Been Eloquent…

So this tour has most definitely brought me out of my shell as far as evangelism goes. God really brought a different cross section of people along my path to talk to about Jesus.  I have talked to so many atheists and pantheists, which is great because now I know how to approach them and tell them bout Jesus. My favorite conversation was one I had at RPI, a college in Smyrna, New York. We were passing out tracts and one of the students refused a tract and told me he didn't believe in God because he was mad about what had happened to him. So I asked him if he was an atheist and if so, how could he be mad at someone he didn’t believe existed? This question came out of no where, I know I really didn't want to ask it. So after this he replied that he was pantheistic so we began to talk and I knew exactly what he was talking about. It just so happened that I had just read the chapter in my homework book that deals with pantheism. So we talked for like 45 minutes and I told him about Jesus and God's love and we talked about science and creationism. This was interesting considering that most people go to RPI to study science and there was no way that the knowledge I have is enough to hold an intelligent conversation with a science major in college.

This whole situation reminded me of God talking to Moses through the burning bush.  Moses says, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" (Exodus 3:11).  God reassures him that he will be with him and everything will go in his favor, and then later Moses says, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." (Exodus 4:10).  This is exactly how I felt!  I’m by no means unintelligent, but I’m also not well equipped to argue science with a future scientist.  God tells Moses, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say" (4:11-12).

It doesn’t matter if you think you’re smart enough, informed enough or eloquent enough, the God who created the universe lives on the inside of you will give you the words and knowledge you need when you need it!  Don’t let fears or insecurities get in your way from going into all the world and preaching the gospel!
