Winter 2009 Newsletter

This tour has been phenomenal and I am sad that it’s over, but as the old sang goes, “all good things must come to an end.”  God is ever molding and changing me and has taught me so much just in the last couple of months.

One of the first weeks of the tour, God placed it on my heart to give a teaching to my team on obedience.  I knew this was going to be an ongoing theme for the tour when my whole team, including myself, was convicted by the teaching and then the next three host homes we went to talked to us a lot about obedience, it was pretty interesting.

About five weeks into the tour, we ministered at a church in New Mexico.  They had never have New Life Drama Company at their church before, so we needed to make sure that their first impression of us was nothing but positive, so when it came time to prepare the skit list for the service, I asked God what skit He wanted us to end with and He told me to end with “Broken” (a skit about a girl contemplating suicide).  I quickly explained to God that we hadn’t rehearsed “Broken” in weeks, it wasn’t going to look good, and one of us was going to do something wrong and pretty much any other excuse I could think of to not end our service with this skit. The only response I received was, “Just trust me and obey, Jessie,” and I said, “Alright, then, we’ll do “Broken.”  Then He said, “Oh, and I don’t want you to play the main part this time, I want Ashley (one of the other girls on my team) to do it,” and I said, “Whoa, now just a second, God, I don’t know if you know this or not, but Ashley has never done that part and I don’t have the time I need to rehearse her in that part!” Again, God simply replied, “Trust and obey, Jessie.” So, with an irritated sigh, I said, “Oh, alright, God, but why ‘Broken’?  Why at this new church?”  He told me that some people in the church were having suicidal thoughts and needed to see it.  We rehearsed as much as we could, but when it came time to actually do the skit, we were all pretty nervous, but we were also trusting God that He was going to do whatever needed to be done… and let me tell you something, boy did He!  The Spirit of God fell all over that church as we were ministering through that particular skit and about 50 people responded to the alter call.  Unfortunately, no one came to get prayer concerning suicidal thoughts/attempts.  I asked God where these people were that needed to see this skit and not five minutes later, the youth pastor came up to me with tears in her eyes and said that she was so grateful to have us and she couldn’t thank us enough for doing that last skit.  She then went on to point a girl out to me who was too embarrassed to come up for prayer with us but had asked for prayer from the youth pastor.  The girl has attempted suicide before and “Broken” had really touched her and changed her life.  Confirming again, in case I ever had any doubt, that God knows exactly what He’s doing and all He asks of us is to be willing and obedient servants.

He shows us this in Titus 3: 1-2 which says, “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.”  This verse basically just reminds us to yield to the authority of God and to always be willing to do what is right in the sight of God.

I hope that this newsletter has touched your heart and taught you something, just as it did me.

Serving my Hero,
Jessie
